We have wasted many hours on the phone with them to resolve two seperate issues. The first was finally resolved by us finding our own repairmen through our own research. The second issue was strung out by them for 3-4 weeks. We double checked everything we were told and found out they were not always right about the information they offered. Although there were a couple of times I was unsure of what they covered, if they indeed didn’t cover it, they explained why, showed me where on the contract it stated such, and helped me get the fixes I needed (on my dime though). I’ve had nothing but bad service from choice home warranty. Even vendors they sent to my house say they were lousy and tried everything they could to not pay for services. I ended up buying me a new washer, dryer, hot water heater and A/C unit because on different calls they did not help me with issues. Ended up having maintenance done to AC unit was told there was a problem called choice they had me pay another vendor to come say same thing and rejected my services which costed me twice.

Our oven went out about a month ago and Choice Home Warranrty has sent a service person here 4 times to “look” at it and thats all thats happened. They keep saying they need to order a part and to call them back in a couple days. When we do they told us that they were researching it. When we called Choice Home Warranty to complain they said we needed to call the service company to get it fixed. So now we are without an oven to cook Christmas dinner and all the food we bought for it. Also, since Choice Home Warranty will not help us, we will have to find some where to take out 6 people for Christmas dinner since we have no way to cook it.

They rejected my claim to fix my washer so I ended up buying the pump and fixed it myself. What I really have a problem with is the customer service rep calls up my wife and tells her to send him the part’s invoice in which we did promptly to see if they can at least reimburse us for some of the cost for the pump. He emphasizes they want to keep our business. We get a call back the next day stating they can’t do anything. Why tell us in the first place to send them the invoice when they had absolutely no intention of reimbursing us. Not a good practice!! –Sam

My refrigerator went on the blink…called Choice. They sent out a technician after calling several times. The technician said the refrig couldn’t be fixed because Choice told the technician the fridge was too old to get the necessary parts. According to my contract I should have either had my refrig fixed or replaced. They did neither. They did offer me a settlement (take it or leave it) to put toward a new fridge. We had a pipe and shut off valve leaking coming into the water heater at the top. We called and a service tech came out and discovered that the water heater was also leaking at the bottom of the unit. The tech said, no problem it will be covered. The warranty company denied the water heater as I expected because they do not cover tanks. They also denied the replacement of the water pipes that were leaking. You are supposed to know before you sign up I guess if there is any known or unknown pre-existing conditions. Choice Home warranty is the worse, they send incompetent techs that are crooks also. After 2 visit to my home to repair my AC unit that went out when we are having 100degree weather, the company refused to replace my unit which they could no longer purchase parts due to the age of the unit. They stated that my claim was denied due to lack of maintenance, which I was never asked about during the calls. I told the tech at the initial service call that I just paid $400 to have the unit serviced. The people stated they needed additional documents. I expressed to them that at this point they are looking for any reason not cover my claim. This company is the worst and I wouldn’t recommend anyone to use them.

Old Republic has AWFUL customer service. The company is so large that they cannot (and from my experience they do not) truly know the vendors they send out. The vendor’s communication with Old Republic is also a major issue with me. Choice Home Warranty is a Scam!! They cover very little for any appliance or home system. Their exclusions are every major element so when you file a claim, they have no responsibility. I have a refrigeration leak in a refrigerator and the exclusions are: racks, shelves, lighting and handles, Freon, ice makers, ice crushers, beverage dispensers and their respective equipment, water lines and valve to ice maker, line restrictions, leaks of any kind, interior thermal shells, food poilage, doors, door seals and gaskets, hinges, glass audio/visual equipment and internet connection components. I should have read more reviews on choice before i purchased my policy with this company. The customer service is the worst I’ve ever encountered, not exaggerating. They won’t return a phone call. I’ve called 3-4 times a day for the past 8 days, waiting 15 minutes each time to get an actual person. They are completely rude. It’s now going on my forth month of dealing with my appliance issue. I’m so stressed by Choice Home Warranty I could rip my hair out. I’m reporting them to the BBB, which they ARE NOT accredited with. I’m not renewing my contract. This company is a rip off, many of the contractors they use are unreliable and incompetant. I feel that they automatically deny all claims made and if you call them out multiple times you may get lucky where they actually approve something. I have made 5 service calls to them over the last year and only one of them was approved. n Let’s take a few minutes to hear from a real customer of Choice. We have a contract with Choice and we pay a monthly fee. On September 14, 2015 our covered washing machine began to malfunction. I contacted Choice via the posted toll free number. They stated that Sears would schedule an appointed to ascertain what was needed. It would be either a repair or a sort of replacement. I contacted the Sears number provided and was told that the first available appointment will be more than two weeks away. It would schedule from 8am to 5pm. So we would have to miss work for the entire day waiting for them. And the cost at that time would be $45. On that day, the service person arrived at 8:10am and within fifteen minutes knew what the problem and what it would take to repair. He then, according to their policy, contacted Choice. At that time the Choice computer was down. Choice did not get the information and I was not privy to that conversation. I was told that there would be a Choice follow up call either later the same day or the next. When no call came in I contacted Choice. Remember that each time you call Choice you have to go thru the entire nonsense of push this number, type in your claim number and then wait. Over the next week I contacted Choice daily requesting that they contact the service person go get the information so we could proceed with either the repairer replacement. I also called Sears and the third party they use. Each call was to request that either Choice reach out to the serviceperson who had the required information of parts or for Sears to have the service person call Choice. This never happened and it was decided by Choice to have another service person respond. Two week later I was able to get another 8am to 5pm appointment. The same service person responded. He stated no one for Choice or Sears every contacted him. He thought that when he gave the information to Choice, weeks earlier, someone would have recorded with the idea to update the service call when the computers were back working. He called Choice and was give the ok to do the repairs. He ordered the parts. He advised that the first available appointment was two weeks away. Another 8am to 5pm wait. This would be the third missed day of work and another two weeks of carrying the wash to a laundromat. So we continue to wait and pay the monthly required fee. On the two previous Sears appointments I received five calls each time the day before. On this third appointment, no calls the day before. At 12:12, I decided to call Sears to get an update on the status of the service person who was to fix the washer. They advised that that person when home sick at 10:30. No one gave us a call to state that fact and strangely there were no calls the day before as a reminder of the appointment. I asked to immediately schedule another appointment and they gave me one, two week away. So now I have the responsibility to miss the fourth day of work and two more trips to the laundromat. When I called Choice they gave me the usual we are sorry. Bottom line, we have a contract with Choice. We pay the monthly fee. We paid the $45 service fee. And now it will be two months at least before any repairs have been made. I turn to the court of public opinion for what hour next step should be. Based on the phone conversations and reality of what has been done, both Choice and Sears could not care less about their customers. Martin Katz
